“IN SEASON” COOKING SERIES

The Greenville Organic Foods Organization (GOFO) is offering a cooking series every Wednesday during the month of June. Participants will learn about eating and cooking with seasonal local and organic ingredients. The classes will be available at three locations starting June 9 through June 30 from 6 to 8 P.M. The price is $20, space is limited and pre-registration is required. Dinner is included in the cost.

Each class will cover a different seasonal topic including local meats and produce. Participants will learn innovative ways to use local foods in their diets. The first class “Are You Game” will take place at Earth Fare, the healthy supermarket, where Chef Heather Kalka will present recipes using local meats and fish. The second class “Ready To Veg Out” will be held at the GHS-Life Center Health & Conditioning Club in Greenville covering challenging topics such as what to do with all those greens. The last cooking class, held at Inergy Restaurant in Simpsonville, will be “Berry Delicious” and covers amazing recipes made with berries and seasonal fruits.

As a celebration to seasonal eating participants of any of these classes will be invited to attend the showing of the movie “Ingredients” at no charge. The film portraits farmers and chefs who are creating a truly sustainable food system. Their collaborative work has resulted in great tasting food and an explosion of consumer awareness about the benefits of eating local. Guests are asked to bring a dish to pass inspired by our local seasonal theme.

All three classes will be lead by Chef Heather Kalka who is enthusiastic about supporting local and sustainable ways of eating.
